In Iceland, changes to laws for controlled substances have Hemp in the News. The Icelandic Medicines Agency (IMA) can now import seeds for industrial hemp.
The Minister of Health Svandís Svavarsdíttir amended regulations so that seeds for growing industrial hemp can be legally imported. The regulation stipulates that the industrial hemp grown can not contain more than 0.2% THC, the psychoactive constituent of cannabis.
Interest in growing hemp has been gaining traction in Iceland for some time. Although related to marijuana, (both are strains of cannabis sativa), hemp has almost no trace of THC. Hemp has thousands of other uses and is grown for its sturdy, durable fibres and its highly nutritious seed.
