Hawaii has set its hemp industry in motion by granting the first permits for growing hemp, thus putting Hemp in the News this week.
The growing licenses were issued to three selected farmers, and only for research purposes for the state’s industrial hemp research and cultivation program. This is great progress for the state of Hawaii, as the potential for a fruitful new crop and industry is promising.
The three farmers are permitted to sell what they harvest, but they need to provide the Department of Agriculture with information about their process of planting, harvesting and distribution.
It’s good news for farmers, and even better news for the hemp industry as a whole.
