There is hemp in the news in Hawaii again this week, as lawmakers get ready for the University of Hawaii to begin cultivating hemp.
Cynthia Thielen, an advocate of industrial hemp, stated the importance of growing hemp for and pointed out the many benefits and uses of hemp, such as being used to decontaminate soil, and as a building material. Creating the hemp-crete building material in Hawaii would eliminate their dependance on chemical based materials from the mainland.
There may be difficulties when it’s time to import hemp seeds into Hawaii. In Kentucky last week, the Drug Enforcement Administration confiscated Kentucky’s first shipment of hemp seeds, which resulted in an extensive law suit in order to get the seeds delivered.
Thielen says Hawaii is prepared to fight the battle.
