The 2014 Farm Bill brought Hemp in the News and continues to do so as one by one, states start to get on board with hemp research. Florida, with its new medical marijuana law that gives universities permission to do hemp research, is opening its doors to the opportunity. Unlike Kentucky, which is miles ahead in the research and development of the hemp industry.
Kentucky farmers are about to begin their third hemp crop of the year. The agriculture commissioner of Kentucky, Ryan Quarles, is embracing the hemp industry as an “economic development initiative,” and foresees a solid, successful future in hemp cultivation.
Now Florida is looking to get on board. The medical marijuana bill passed this year allows agricultural programs in state colleges and universities to grow hemp and cannabis for research purposes. The goal is to do research that will develop a competitive and stable hemp industry for Florida.
