Western Kentucky University hemp crop brings Hemp in the News. Staff and students are harvesting the first of 13 varieties of hemp. WKU is part of a hemp research program with the University of Kentucky.
This first harvest was planted to study hemp fibre production and the amount of nitrogen required to grow it. One of the other crops, which will be harvested later, was planted to test seed production.
The Agricultural Act of 2014 allows universities and state agriculture departments to grow industrial hemp for the purpose of studying it’s cultivation and economic potential.
