The U.S. Department of Agriculture put Hemp in the News this week by awarding Oregon State University with a $10 million grant.
The grant is to be used by the university’s Global Hemp Innovation Center to conduct a five-year study on economic opportunities for hemp in the western United States. The funds are provided by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Sustainable Agricultural Systems grant program.
Together with Oregon State scientists, there are eight institutions across the U.S. that are participating in the research program. The focus will be on the benefits for Native American and other small communities in the Western Pacific area.
The Global Hemp Innovation Center was founded in 2019, to help the hemp industry by broadening education and information about the crop.
