Pleasanton corn and soybean farmer, Rory Cruise, is following in his fathers footsteps, changing things up to make a new Hemp History.
Twenty-five years ago, Rory’s father opened new possibilities on the farm by building a huge greenhouse and growing herbs. Cruise said their Sprout House brand now supplies all of the Lincoln and Omaha Metro-area Walmarts. The rebirth of the hemp industry, and his father’s example, made it easy for him to make the change from corn and soybean to hemp.
Nebraska’s relaxing of applications, has seen an exponential growth from 10 to 73 growers. Growing herbs in the past has Cruise well used to all the checks and regulations of an industry. Therefore, opening a new company, Sweetwater Hemp, that will specialize in oils made from the hemp plant, has been relatively easy.
“This is probably one of the biggest industry changers we’ve seen in our lifetime,” Cruise said.
