April 22nd marked the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day, and the opportunity to compare the environmental impact of Hemp vs. Marijuana.
Two days before Earth Day is 420 Day, an international day for cannabis-related protests and events. People around the world gather to celebrate and consume marijuana, and to raise awareness. The closeness of these two events brings attention to the contention between these two cannabis plants.
Marijuana is recreational, whereas hemp is practical and good for the environment.
When cannabis is mentioned, hemp is often overlooked. Most people associate cannabis with smoking marijuana and getting high, but hemp is part of the cannabis family, and it has so much more to offer.
Hemp is the non-psychoactive variety of cannabis, containing no more than 0.3% THC. After over 80 years of being illegal in the U.S., hemp is making a comeback, and is celebrated for its sustainability and environmental reprieve.
