From food and clothing to building materials, there are literally thousands of Uses of Hemp. In Iowa, college students can now earn a degree in growing it.
In September, the Eastern Iowa Community College in Muscatine will launch a degree program in growing the industrious and versatile hemp crop.
Shane Mairet, a farmer himself, is responsible for the development of The Industrial Hemp Program. EICC is the first in Iowa to offer a degree program for hemp cultivation.
During the one year program, students will learn about hemp production and how to market the crop after harvest. They will also learn about licensing, regulations, and business practices.
