A small farm near Lincoln, Nebraska, has grown a one acre Hemp Fibre crop to demonstrate hemps potential to fellow Nebraskan farmers.
The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp and hemp-derived products from the list of controlled substances, making it an ordinary agricultural commodity. Although the popularity of hemp products is ever-increasing across the U.S., Nebraska has not seen a rise in hemp farming.
Rosemary Reed, CEO of Off the Grid: Reed’s Green Growers, plans to change this by hosting an open house to showcase two types of hemp grown on her farm. She hopes the success of her test plot will inspire other farmers in the area to begin cultivating hemp. The long-term goal is to help Nebraska grow its hemp industry.
