Australians may soon have access to hemp food products and begin enjoying the benefits of Hemp Nutrition, thanks to the Tasmanian government’s proposal.

Tasmania produces more industrial hemp seed than anywhere else in Australia.

At a recent meeting of government officials, the Tasmanian government’s suggestions prompted the Food Standards Australia New Zealand to write up a proposal for allowing hemp to be available for human consumption.

Unlike its close cousin, marijuana, hemp has no use as a recreational drug because it contains extremely low amounts of the psychoactive ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Industrial hemp is grown for its fibre and and for the production of nutritional food products, amongst other things.
