Hemp in the news in the U.S., reports that the
Department of Agriculture hemp-field-slideris looking into importing hemp seed from the Ukraine, to help boost it’s suffering economy.

Ukrainian hemp seed is recognized for commercial and industrial purposes, and can be used for the production of high-protein oils or for manufacturing paint and plastics.

Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, stated that they are investigating ways in which the U.S. can make us of the Ukraine’s industrial hemp seeds.

The Ukraine is the fourth-biggest producer of hemp seed in the world, and is seeking international aid to help them combat the current political crisis caused by Russia’s annexation of Crimea. The Ukraine’s currency has plummeted about 25% against the dollar.

The Obama administration will be providing aid that includes a $1 billion loan, and has teamed with European allies to work out a more extensive aid package.
